Many of you know that we have an annual 15 mile walk to honour all our hounds that are at Rainbow Bridge. We'd like to invite you to join us in this very special walk.
We chose the walk between Notley Country Park (Braintree) as this is where our very first Greyhound Walk was held and we go along the very peaceful disused railway line, the Flitch Way. It's a time to chat with friends, reflect on our memories and to remember the hounds we have loved.
Our route this year, as last, will be:
Start /Finish at Notley CP from the green where the GW walks start:
Meet at 8am ready to walk at 8.30am.
A circuit of the Country Park then over the footbridge to the Flitch Way
We follow the Flitch Way to the Dunmow 'branch line' and then return
Back to the Booking Hall Cafe for afternoon tea and back to the Country Park
Not everyone can do 15 miles so we have a little taxi service avaialble to pick up people/hounds and return them to their cars.
The stopping/drop off/pick up points we have earmarked are:
Booking Hall Cafe at Rayne
Gatewoods Lane (where you cross the road and there are special gates for the horses to go over. People who have been before will know what I'm talking about! You can drive a car down there to those gates to save walking to the main road)
A120 Rayne footbridge at Dunmow Road
Bannister Green Halt Bridge
5 Star Boarding Kennels Stebbing Road
Old Felsted Station (by the gypsy camp)
Playing Field at Little Dunmow (Brook Street/St Marys Place)
(we'll work out distances for these and post to the thread.)
We also invite people to have their hounds name on the tshirts that the walkers wear so that they walk with us every step of the way.
If you would like to join the walk or have a name on the tshirt please email [email protected]

Just to add to how you can be involved in the walk even if you can't walk 15 miles - do a tag team and split the distance between you
This is such a lovely walk and for such very special reasons, hope you can join us.

We have lots of people joining us this year (but there's always room for more!)
Attached is a map of the Flitch Way to give you an idea of where we're going. We'll be joining it approaching from Notley Country Park just before the old station and cafe at Rayne (page 1 of the leaflet) and will turn around at Little Dunmow to return to Braintree (p4 of the leaflet.)
The pink arrows show where you can get a vehicle close to the path and this is where all those who are doing aprt of the walk or 'tag-teaming' will be collected (with dogs if needed) and then taken back to their cars wherever they are by the GW Taxis.
The whole walk for a fast walker is about 5 hours, for the less speedy a lot longer but that's the joy of doing a part of the walk you can go at your own speed.
Meeting at 8am at Notley ready to walk at 8.30 we'll hand out info leaflets with contact numbers to everyone
This is a very special walk and a very special place which is so beautiful in early summer - very fitting to remember our loved hounds.
If you would like to come and join us please add your name to the thread, if you want to join part way though we can give an estimation of where we'll be when.
If you'd like the name of a Rainbow Bridge hound added to the tshirts we'll be wearing again please add details to the thread.
If you'd like to sponsor those walking you can donate with paypal to [email protected] or send a cheque to Greyhound Walks c/o 12 Pilgrims Close, Billericay, CM11 2BA

We are arranging tshirts for this years walk - so far we have 24 people involved in walking - brilliant (especially as today would have been Chelsea's birthday so very heartwarming for us.)
If anyone would like a rainbow bridge hound named on the tshirts if you could please let me know by tomorrow.
If anyone else would like to join us please let me know if it will be at the 8.30 start at Notley CP, 9.30 pass through Rayne Station or somewhere else along the route.
Thank you everyone for your support.
